A Storm in a B Cup?

Orico-Full-CupOrico Full Cup Bust & Neck Enhancing Elixir (30ml- £27)

Orico’s Full Cup claims to ‘enhance breasts by 2 to 4 cm after 6 weeks of use’. Seriously, body oil (unless perhaps you’re drinking the stuff) can’t make your tits bigger, can it?

Having had breast cancer, surgery and reconstruction, I am in a unique position to road test this product. After six weeks will my real, right breast grow bigger than the left, reconstructed one? Skeptical I am – but this I have to try. Continue reading

The Amazing 3 Minute Makeup

3 minute makeup

The o-l-d-e-r I get the more I cannot be bothered to mess about with makeup. The sad irony though is that the older I get, the more I need to subtly disguise under-eye bags, cheek blotches, forehead furrows and the rest of their gruesome gang.

So I have developed a nifty morning routine that allows me to lounge in bed with my cup of tea catching up with all the latest gossip about world disasters, war and political idiocracy on Radio 4’s Today until 08:47, and still be clocking on at work by 09:00. Continue reading

In Conversation: Rose-Marie Swift

She’s a leading make-up artist, whose magic illuminates the beautiful faces that grace fashion’s catwalks and glossy magazine covers alike. In 2008 Rose-Marie Swift founded the now cult make-up brand rms beauty. You seem to be passionate about your work, what is your background?  Continue reading

How to Get Beautiful Hair in Your Sleep

At the end of a summer of swimming, dyeing, backcombing and general tonsorial debauchery my hair resembles a desiccated haystack.

Not a problem. There is a simple and inexpensive way to transform dry hair from thatched-roof to red-carpet condition, overnight. Women all over the South Pacific have been doing this for millennia and, think about it, have you ever seen one of them with a barnet that did not resemble a waterfall of black silk?  Continue reading

The Good Stuff – Jojoba Oil

Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis / Buxus chinensis)

The Jojoba is an evergreen bush that is indigenous to the deserts of Mexico and the Southwest USA. These days Argentina produces almost half of the world’s Jojoba and its cultivation is very beneficial for the desert environment.

The oil that is extracted from the Jojoba nut is truly a wonder. The first thing that you need to know about it is this: Continue reading

Making Sense of Sunscreens

Jan writes: “Hello, I’m looking for an invisible, lightweight, non-greasy, non-toxic/organic facial sunscreen that can be worn under makeup.”

Aaaaargh, sunscreen!

This is one of the gnarliest subjects in beauty. Before I make a recommendation, there are a few things to know, briefly:  Continue reading

Clash of the Cleansers

Who doesn’t love Eve Lom cleanser? The rich green oily goop. The heavenly menthol smell. The clinical, white packaging with just that touch of glamorous gold. The cute muslin cloth. The luxury price tag (£55). Vogue went so far as to call it the “best cleanser in the world” Ok well maybe that is pushing it. After all, there can’t actually be a “world’s best cleanser,” can there?

It makes me think though, what do I really require from a cleanser? Continue reading

The Good Stuff – Rose Hip Seed Oil

Rose Hip Seed Oil (Rosa Canina / Rosa Rubiginosa / Rosa Moschata)

The Dog Rose, Sweet Briar Rose and the Musk Rose are grown primarily for their rose hips. Once the shrub has flowered, the hips grow fat and red. When these are ripe they are harvested, dried, peeled and the seeds are pressed to produce pure rose hip seed oil. The finest rose hips are grown in Chile, on the unspoiled foothills of the Andes. Continue reading
